EDEN Doctoral Seminars

NEW TOPIC!
For the first time EIASM is organising a Special EDEN Doctoral Seminar on:

THE NINE SCHOOLS OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Lille, France, August 18-22, 2008
Deadline for application : June 20, 2008

Modern project management had its genesis as an off-shoot of Operations Research and Operations Management in the late 1940s. In the early days the focus was on using optimization algorithms such as critical path analysis, the earned value method, and Monte Carlo analysis to optimize the time and cost required to deliver the project’s objectives. Over the subsequent 60 years several other schools of thought have developed, and nine are now identifiable: the optimization school, the modelling school, the success school, the governance school, the process school, the decision school, the behaviour school, the marketing school, the contingency school.

It is recognized that the theoretical basis of project management is evolving, and this is an encumbrance to research in project management. With a weak theoretical basis, research paradigms are weak, and that is a threat to the research methodologies that follow.

The aim of this new EDEN seminar is to explore the nine schools as a basis for a theoretical basis to project management, to explore the research paradigms that potentially underpin each school, and the methodological approaches that follow.

EMAC 2008 Conference Jobmarket

The EMAC, with the cooperation of the EIASM (European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management), is pleased to announce its 2nd job market at the EMAC Conference 2008 in Brighton, We view this platform as an exciting effort to create a more integrated European market for marketing researchers, faculty, and thereby ideas. We will need your help in making it a success.

Why do we need such a market in Europe ? One important reason is that the European academia in marketing, and particularly the demand and supply of assistant professors, has grown considerably. An increasing number of qualified young PhDs seeks employment in academic institutions, and many institutions have opened positions for individuals with advanced teaching and research skills in business studies.

Today, many institutions and candidates rely on inefficient informal connections or on the job market. At the same time, a European setting would not be alternative to the job market. But it will be an easier and more effective means for many institutions and candidates, including those who may not use, or at least bet on the market.

The website for the EMAC job market is accessible at:

EMAC 2008 CONFERENCE – ONLINE JOBMARKET

The structure of the website is simple. One section is devoted to the candidates. They will have to enter their names and profiles (including CVs, areas of expertise, papers). Another section is for the institutions. They will have to indicate the assistant professorship positions (one or more) that they plan to open (field, starting date, possibly information about the contract, e.g. salary). Demands and applications can be in any area of the marketing academic community.

The Job market sessions, where institutions may choose to interview candidates, will be held on Tuesday 27 May from 14.00-17.30 and during the conference days
Wednesday 28 May from 17.30-18.30
Thursday 29 May 17.30-18.30
Friday 30 May 16.30-17.30

Institutions and candidates who are willing to join the job market sessions are required to register for the Conference, following the procedures described in the Conference website: www.emac2008.org

We would also allow the on-line market to work in a direct way, that is, institutions contact one or more candidates found on the website and invite them for a job talk. The market that we envisage could of course be used for related positions like post-docs, non-academic jobs (e.g. PhDs in consulting companies, or even firms), or more senior positions. Yet, the main focus of our initiative is currently on new PhDs seeking marketing tenure-track positions in international academic institutions.

We hope this EMAC initiative could help you in pursuing your academic career.
