Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends of EIASM,
 
As many of you are no doubt aware, the role of research and doctoral education within the field of management is steadily gaining in importance. More specifically, the great need for research-based new knowledge which can help us answer those questions that future challenges in society will raise, is today acknowledged everywhere. Universities all over the world are experiencing shortages of faculty in management education, thereby compelling higher education institutions to cooperate with regard to doctoral education in new and innovative ways.
 
For EIASM, research and doctoral education have always been the key activities. Two factors especially seem to be crucial for the future. Firstly, how we integrate cross-disciplinary issues in our activities, and secondly, the role of the EIASM in shaping the development of researchers as well as post doctoral networks. The way in which we move forward with these concerns will have strong implications for the positioning of EIASM in the coming years.
 
Our network of individual researchers, doctoral students, faculty and business schools is not a static one. It has evolved over the years as new international networks are created. For EIASM, it is essential that we continue to develop our activities so that synergies can be achieved by co-operating with other institutions, organisations and academic associations, not only in our own field but also in other disciplines. This will enable us to improve the services to members of our network and to sharpen the profile of EIASM.
 
We look forward to a challenging New Year 2010!

The 2009 José Veciana Best Paper Award for a Junior Researcher

After the passing away in October 2009 of one of the most prominent researchers in the field of Entrepreneurship in Europe, Professor José VECIANA, it was decided to name the Best Paper Award for a Junior Researcher after him. This Prize is awarded on the occasion of our RENT conference (organized annually in November in collaboration with ECSB).

The 2009 winners of the José Veciana Best Paper Award for a Junior  Researcher  are: 

Franziska Günzel & Helge Wilker
with the paper entitled :
" Patterns in Business Models: A Case Survey"

and to

Dries Faems & Fleur Lamers & Klaasjan Visscher
with their paper entitled :
"Exploration Patterns in Gazelle Firms: A Multiple Case Study in the Internet Technology Industry"

New Developments and Future of Doctoral Education in Management in Europe

We are very happy to announce the second event within the series of activities on New Developments and Future of Doctoral Education in Europe.

This second event is planned for February 11-12, 2010 and will take place in the premises of EIASM in Brussels, Belgium.

The more specific theme for this workshop is "Structuring a Community of Practice for Doctoral Education".
