Ricardo Morais, Catholic University of Portugal – Programme coordinator & Faculty
Ricardo Morais is Assistant Professor of Management at Catholic University of Portugal (Porto) and founder of Idea Puzzle (www.ideapuzzle.com). He holds a PhD in Strategic Management from the University of Jyväskylä (first Portuguese PhD in Finland in Social Sciences), having graduated in Management from the University of Porto. His research interests include theory development, critical realism, strategy formation, multinational management, and design thinking. Since 2002, he has lectured these topics in over 50 universities in 11 countries. He is a member of the Academy of Management, Strategic Management Society, and Academy of International Business (www.ricardomorais.com).
Eelko Huizingh, University of Groningen - Faculty
Eelko Huizingh is an Associate Professor of Innovation Management at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, and a fellow of Graduate School and Research Institute SOM (Systems Organisation and Management). He has (co-)authored over 300 articles in a broad range of journals and has been guest editor of over 15 special issues of journals. He has (co-)authored Dutch textbooks on Innovation Management, Marketing Management, the impact of the Internet, the use of SPSS, and Marketing Information Systems. Recently, Sage published his book Applied Statistics with SPSS. Dr. Huizingh is Vice President Scientific Affairs of ISPIM (International Society for Professional Innovation Management), the leading innovation management association in Europe with over 5,000 (associate) members.

This seminar helps early stage PhD candidates design their research project. In particular, participants will:
- acknowledge process, philosophical, and methodological ambiguities in their research;
- understand the interplay between theory, method, data, rhetoric, and authorship in their research;
- apply a framework of 21 questions to focus and design their research;
- diagnose the current strengths and weaknesses of their research;
- learn strategies for literature review, theory development, and theory testing;
- formulate alternative research ideas and research questions;
- design a literature review;
- discuss alternative qualitative research designs;
- discuss alternative quantitative research designs;
- develop a conceptual model;
- discuss alternative measurements;
- design data collection and analysis;
- design their thesis project.

Besides doctoral students, other researchers may participate. The number of participants will be limited to create a stimulating environment. The selection among the applicants will be conducted by the Institute’s Faculty. They will review the following documents which should necessarily complement each application form:
- the applicant’s curriculum vitae demonstrating his/her capabilities of doing research ;
- a letter of recommendation of his/her local faculty supporting the application ;
- a two-page description of his/her doctoral research, indicating the general objectives

PARTICIPATION FEE
The participation fee is 1100 € (VAT Excluded). This fee includes participation to the seminar, the documents, lunches and a group dinner.
EIASM SCHOLARSHIPS
The Institute offers a substantial reduction of the participation fee per member institution (1 scholarship per institution). These scholarships are strictly limited to students coming from an EIASM Institutional (the Academic Council). Allocation of the scholarships is entirely at the discretion of the European Institute.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellations made before October 1, 2016 will be reimbursed with 10% deduction of the total fee. No reimbursement will be possible after this date.
