The aim of this course is to be an introduction in how to do consumer behavior research, rather than to provide exhaustive coverage of the field as a whole. It will focus on evaluating papers, preparing research ideas, and developing them into research proposals in four important areas of consumer research: self-control, social identity, consumer decision making, and consumer culture theory.
The course asks for quite some active involvement: you will be divided in research teams for several assignments. With your team you will discuss and critique research papers, develop and present research ideas, and learn about the review process. The faculty will provide guidance, comments, and help you on the way with some presentations to get you started in each of the covered fields. All ideas developed during the week will be kept and displayed.
On the last day teams reform and choose one of the developed ideas, in order to develop it further into a full-fledged research proposal.
The course requires a considerable amount of preparation, primarily to read the assigned papers, and active involvement throughout the week. All readings will be made available one month before the start of the course.
Full attendance is required to obtain the certificate.
4 ECTS will be assigned upon completion of the seminar.
Interested doctoral students should register online (and add the required documents) no later than October 7, 2022. Besides doctoral students, other researchers may participate. The number of participants will be limited to create a stimulating environment. The selection among the applicants will be conducted by the Institute’s Faculty. They will review the following documents which should necessarily complement each application form:
- the applicant’s curriculum vitae demonstrating his/her capabilities of doing research ;
- a letter of recommendation of his/her local faculty supporting the application ;
- a two-page description of his/her doctoral research, indicating the general objectives.
The participation fee is 1100 €. This fee includes participation to the seminar, the course material, lunches, coffee breaks and one group dinner
