BACKGROUND

In conjunction with the EFA 2016 conference, a one-day Doctoral Tutorial is being organised for Wednesday, August 17, 2016, by co-chairs Gyöngyi Lóranth (University of Vienna), Esther Eiling (University of Amsterdam), and Frans de Roon (Tilburg University) – thanks to the ongoing support of the Nasdaq Educational Foundation, the Chicago Quantitative Alliance (CQA), and the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM).

PARTICIPANTS

The EFA / EIASM Doctoral Tutorial is held in a collaborative, open and friendly atmosphere. The eight selected papers are distributed well in advance to facilitate lively discussions, questions and feedback from student and faculty participants alike. To enhance the collegiality of the Tutorial, participants are expected to be there for the entire session – and are also invited to a welcome supper (sponsored by the Nasdaq Educational Foundation) held the evening before the event. Furthermore, a student whose paper is accepted for the Doctoral Tutorial is also required to serve as a discussant for one of the other papers (and prepare for this in advance). All Doctoral Tutorial student participants receive a certificate of participation – as well as a free pass to the EFA Annual Meeting.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • Preference will be given to single-authored papers.
  • Since it is a doctoral tutorial, papers should be part of the doctoral work/thesis.
  • Papers can be in any stage of the doctoral work, but obviously more complete (unfinished) papers will be more suitable for presentation and discussion.

CALL FOR PAPERS

We encourage doctoral students to submit papers or proposals by Tuesday February 2, 2016 at 1:00 PM (13:00hrs) CET (Central European Time).

Submitters are welcome to add one or two additional page(s) raising the conceptual and methodological problems they face at the current stage of their dissertation, which they would like to discuss during the tutorial. All topics and methodological approaches within the broad field of finance are welcome.

Preference will be shown for work that is substantially advanced but not fully completed. We consider only single-authored work by current PhD students who have not yet been in the job market, and who are planning to join the job market in 2016/2017 or later.
