The co-chairs of the 36th EIBA / EIASM JOHN H. DUNNING DOCTORAL TUTORIAL IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS (2022) are:
Timothy Devinney, Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester
The first objective of the EIBA / EIASM John H. Dunning Doctoral Tutorial in International Business (JHD-DT) is to provide an opportunity for doctoral students in International Business (IB) to discuss their research plans and works-in-progress with a distinguished international Faculty. A secondary purpose is to acquaint them with an international network of professionals linked to the IB field and EIBA. The core faculty of the Doctoral Tutorial is composed of leading scholars in International Business. The number of student participants accepted for the annual Doctoral Tutorial is limited to ten (as this EIBA doctoral event involves a considerable amount of faculty feedback and discussion; therefore, the current one-day format cannot accommodate more students). Please note that attendance to the whole tutorial is mandatory. The doctoral thesis with the most potential (as selected by the Faculty immediately following the event) is awarded the EIBA Best Doctoral Thesis Proposal in International Business Award, consisting of a certificate and money prize. Please note that all accepted students participating in the doctoral events must be duly & fully registered for the EIBA 2022 conference – this is a mandatory eligibility requirement. The JHD Doctoral Tutorial and DVDB Doctoral Symposium are closed and complimentary pre-conference sessions intended for fully-registered PhD student participants who have duly applied for and been accepted to one of the EIBA doctoral events. ATTENTION: Submissions not accepted for the Doctoral Tutorial may be considered for the Doctoral Symposium; however, there is no implied guarantee of acceptance for any EIBA doctoral event – the respective organisers reserve the right of making final decisions.
The 36th John H. Dunning Doctoral Tutorial (JHD-DT) for International Business doctoral students is being organized in conjunction with the 48th Annual Conference of the European International Business Academy (EIBA) to be held on December 8-10, 2022 in Oslo, Norway. The 2022 JHD-DT will take place on Thursday, December 8, 2022, on Day 1 of the EIBA 2022 Conference. The 2022 Doctoral Tutorial is being co-chaired by Jean-François Hennart and Bent Petersen. Applications for participation need to be sent by September 1 using the template described below. The ten selected participants will then be asked to submit an updated ten-page version of their thesis proposal by November 16, 2022 following the guidelines listed below. (All accepted students participating in this event must also be fully registered for the EIBA 2022 conference – this is a mandatory requirement.) An award will be presented to the participating student with the most promising thesis proposal at the 2022 JHD-DT. (Click HERE to view the complete list of previous JHD-DT award winners.) We are particularly keen to encourage applications from doctoral students who, although not yet being close to having completed their thesis, are already at an advanced stage and have developed a clear idea of the theories, methods, and data they will use (or are in the process of collecting) – and of their intended research design. That is, we welcome especially applications from doctoral candidates who are mid-way through their thesis. (Those in the early stages may be interested in applying instead for the Danny Van Den Bulcke Doctoral Symposium.) We particularly encourage applicants from schools that do not as yet have established IB faculty research groups. As the number of students accepted for the JHD-DT is strictly limited, those interested in applying for this event are urged to send:
by September 1, 2022
Applicants should divide their three-page abstracts into the following sections – in roughly the proportions shown below as a guideline:
NOTE: If your thesis is made up of several papers, it may make sense to introduce the theme and then to focus on one of the papers so that you can provide sufficient details.
NOTE: The submission deadline has passed (September 1) – it is therefore no longer possible to make a submission or apply for this event.
Guidelines to participants of the Doctoral Tutorial for the preparation of their paper and presentation. Papers should be a maximum of 10 pages (10 point Times New Roman, 1.5 line spacing) (excluding bibliography). 40 minutes are set aside for your presentation + the comments from the faculty/panellists. Please keep in mind that we have a tight time schedule, so if your presentation exceeds 20 minutes this implies that there is less time for comments to you.
