OBJECTIVES

You are invited to attend the 13th annual Workshop on Talent Management, to be held in Luxembourg on September 30 and October 1, 2024. Following the twelve highly successful Workshops held in Brussels in 2012 and 2013, Berlin in 2014, Valencia in 2015, Copenhagen in 2016, Barcelona in 2017, Helsinki in 2018, Toulouse in 2019, and virtual/online sessions in 2020 and 2021, Cork in 2022, and Lyon in 2023, the 2024 Workshop is intended to continue providing a forum for academic exchange  of conceptual and empirical (qualitative or quantitative) research in the area of talent management. The workshop has a strong developmental focus and as such encourages research which may be in progress as well as completed research.

CHAIRPERSONS

Professor David Collings, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland

David Collings holds the Chair in Sustainable Business at Trinity Business School, Trinity College Dublin. He previously held faculty positions at Dublin City University, University of Sheffield and National University of Ireland, Galway and visiting positions at King’s College London, Nanyang Business School in Singapore and Cornell University as a Fulbright Scholar. He is a leading international expert on talent management, global mobility and the future of work. He has been named as one of the most influential thinkers in the field of HR years by HR Magazine on four occasions. He has published numerous papers in leading international outlets including Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Organization Science and Personnel Psychology and 12 books and his work is regularly cited in media and other outlets. He is former Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of World Business, Human Resource Management Journal and the Irish Journal of Management and sits on the editorial boards of multiple journals including Academy of Management Review, Journal of Management and Journal of Management Studies. He is a former Chair of the HR Division of the Academy.
 

Professor Hugh Scullion, Hull University, UK

Hugh Scullion is professor in International Management and Director of The Future of Global Work and Leadership Institute at Hull University, previously holding faculty positions at Warwick, Newcastle, Nottingham and Strathclyde Universities. His areas of expertise includes Global Talent Management, Strategic and International HRM, the Future of Global Work and managing STEM talents in high tech SMEs. His international research reputation in International HRM and Global Talent Management is evidenced by publications in leading  journals (e.g the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of World Business and Human Resource Management Journal), publication of  nine books and over 13,000  citations reflecting the influence of his work. He is Visiting Professor with the Indian Institute of Management and the University of the West Indies and has developed strong research collaboration with leading institutes in India and the CEE.  He is co founder and co - chair of the EIASM Talent Management Workshop and has consulted widely in Europe (e.g Rolls Royce, Sun Microsoft and Boots plc)  and in Asia (e.g  Telecom Malaysia and National Productivity Board of Singapore). He is founder and chair of the Humberside HR Directors Group and advises on strategic HR and Talent  issues. He leads  masterclasses in Talent Management for clients in Europe, Asia and the Caribbean.

 

 

Professor Vlad Vaiman  
California Lutheran University, U.S.A. 
(Coordinating Chairperson)

Vlad Vaiman is Professor and the Associate Dean at the School of Management of California Lutheran University and a visiting professor at several premier universities around the globe.  Dr. Vaiman is widely regarded as one of the leading international scholars in the field of talent management. He has published seven very successful books on managing talent in organizations and at country level, as well as a number of academic and practitioner-oriented articles and book chapters on talent management and International HRM.  His work appeared in Academy of Management Learning and Education, Human Resource Management, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management Review, Journal of Business Ethics, and many others.  He is also a founding editor and currently the Chief Editorial Consultant of European Journal of International Management, and the editorial board member of several prestigious academic journals, such as Human Resource Management, European Management Review, Journal of Global Mobility, Human Resource Management Review, Journal of Knowledge Management, among others.  Dr. Vaiman is a co-founder, organizer, and a leading chair of the EIASM Workshop on Talent Management and a co-editor of the Emerald book series on Talent Management.   

 

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Serge Da Motta Veiga
NEOMA Business School, France

Serge da Motta Veiga is Professor of Human Resource Management and Director of Research at NEOMA Business School in France. Prior to joining NEOMA, he worked at American University, Lehigh University, and EDHEC Business School. He earned his Ph.D. in Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior from the University of Missouri. His research expertise revolves around job search, recruitment, and career and talent management more broadly speaking. Specifically, he is interested in examining dynamic factors in issues surrounding employment, career management and talent management. He has published his work in leading journals including Organization Science, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Human Resource Management, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Vocational Behavior, and the Journal of Organizational Behavior. He is currently co-editor-in-chief at Applied Psychology: An International Review, and Associate Editor at the Journal of Management Studies. He is also incoming Division Chair of the Careers Division of the Academy of Management.

Muriel Morbé
CEO of the House of Training, Luxembourg

Muriel Morbé is the Training Director of the Chambre de Commerce and CEO of the House of Training.
Muriel Morbé joined the Chamber of Commerce in 2009 as Training Advisor, following a first professional experience at the law firm Elvinger Hoss.

 In 2015, she joined the House of Training, the professional training institute of the Chamber of Commerce and the Association des Banques et Banquiers Luxembourg (ABBL), where she held the positions of Business Manager and Head of Operations respectively. In 2020, she was appointed CEO. In March 2022, Muriel Morbé joined the Executive Committee of the Chamber of Commerce as Training Director. Driven by her commitment to an equitable and effective education and training system, she is actively involved in both initial and continuing vocational training. She advocates for the development, promotion, and enhancement of apprenticeships and works to bridge the gap between education and business. She considers continuing vocational training to be essential for developing and strengthening the skills of companies, their managers, and their employees in response to the current and future challenges of the labour market.

Thierry De Poerck
Luxembourg Business Angel Network

Senior Executive in international banking and financial institutions, with over 17 years of experience, Thierry is a seasoned professional specializing in cross-border Mergers & Acquisition and strategy consulting.  To date, Thierry has also achieved successful business transformation, acceleration, and optimization in the fashion industry.  
He is an active angel investor and has made more than 15 investments in start-ups.

CALL FOR PAPERS

We invite papers from a wide range of disciplinary traditions that explore talent management issues from both theoretical and practical perspectives, and we encourage papers which are multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary in nature.

We welcome empirical papers from both qualitative and quantitative traditions. We would particularly welcome papers from regions and countries which have to date been underrepresented in debates on talent management.

a 3-page abstract
